Geiranger. This tiny little hamlet is at the end of Geirangerfjord. It booms during tourist season (May to early September) when it hosts over 180 cruise ships and more than 300,000 people, and in the winter is home to 250 residents. It is the third biggest cruise port in Norway and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Off the ship and onto a bus for a ride up the Eagle’s Road to the Eagle’s Bend viewpoint. Eleven hairpin turns later and we reached our destination. Acrophobia is no problem today. I was able to get close enough to the edge to take a couple of interesting pics.
From there it was back on the bus again for a return ride over those same 11 hairpin turns for a stop at Flydalsjuvet viewpoint. Driving a bus on these narrow, narrow, twisting roads takes skill and courage. For once I am glad I am not in the front seat; I am certain I would have to ride with my eyes closed so as not to feel as if I was going into free fall over the cliff.

Flydalsjuvet was higher than Eagle’s Bend; still fine with my acrophobia. We were still below the tree line, as these photos will attest.
And then, higher still. Now we were going above the tree line. The scenery was reminiscent of what we saw above the Arctic Circle. We traveled up from greenery to rocks and a frozen lake when we stopped at Djupvasshytta, 1030 meters (3379 feet) above sea level.

After lunch found us on a small boat tour of the Geirangerfjord. We booked the boat tour on March 5, 2017. The boat was packed with passengers, each with a camera in hand. Everyone wanted up close pictures of the falls, especially the Seven Sisters and the Suitor falls. Here are a few of the shots taken from the boat.
Sailing through the fjord was a wonderful experience. Here is a select group of photos from our trip.
Lastly, here are a couple of shots as the Star sailed away from Geiranger. Although we were still in the fjord, the different angle of the sun made the view somewhat different. Enjoy.
