St. Thomas is the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands. It seems to be recovering from Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Here are a couple of shots as we approached the dock. Look for the rainbow!
We’ve been to St. Thomas a lot of times and generally we walk around Charlotte Amalie, have lunch and return to our ship. Today was no exception to the rule except that we met friends, Jimmy and Barbara, who are sailing on the Grandeur of the Seas. Here is a photo of JoAnn taking a picture of the Grandeur as it was approaching the port and another one of it as it came closer.
Here’s JoAnn, Barbara and Jimmy in the Crown Bay Cruise Ship Terminal ready for an adventure ashore. What they didn’t know was that the plans for the day included walking around Charlotte Amalie, lunch and a taxi ride back to Crown Bay.
The main shopping area still shows signs of the storms. We spoke with a saleslady in A.H. Riise who told us the island was still bouncing back. I asked what happened to the liquor store in Riise and she told me after the storm it closed and apparently was not going to reopen. Too bad! I did my best to get a few shot of the area. Here they are.
Here’s a few more of downtown.
From downtown we took a taxi to Yacht Haven for lunch. This marina, near Havensight Pier, is very nice and has, in addition to beautiful boats, a couple of nice restaurants where you can sit by the water and imagine what it must be like to own a 60 foot yacht.
After lunch we strolled over to Havensight. Here’s a photo taken at Havensight just before we boarded a taxi for a ride back to Crown Bay.
Then a beer at Crown Bay and some excitement with a lizard. Barbara swore it was going to attack her. Needless to say, Barbara was none to fond of the big fellow.
He was harmless and added a little excitement to the moment.
One of my favorite times on a cruise is sailing away from port. The port of St. Thomas is quite attractive and I alway enjoy sailing away from it. Here is a shot as we began our next leg to Antigua.
Looks like another fun trip.
