Armchair traveler, Montevideo Uruguay, A brief sojourn, March 1, 2016

March 1, 2016 was a dreary, gloomy, nasty day with off and on rain showers and cool temperatures. We were traveling on the Celebrity Infinity and departed from Buenos Aires the last day of February. We were on an extended voyage around the Horn of South America to Santiago, Chile, and Montevideo was our first stop.

My memory of those few hours is of a pleasant, damp city; people scurrying here and there with their rain hats on and faces down to avoid the chilly wind.

It’s difficult to curate a day that took place almost five years ago. I will do my best; let the photos tell the rest of the story and let me know what you think.

As we entered Plaza Independencia we passed under the “Gateway of the Citadel.

Our time was limited and we tried to make the most of it. We passed through the plaza on our way to the Metropolitan Cathedral.

We stopped in Plaza Matriz as we were on our way to the Montevideo Metropolitan Cathedral.

The cathedral was, as most are, a lovely; calm and peaceful place.

I took a couple of photos of the glass which is ablaze with color.

My favorite shots, however, were of this artist as she worked patiently restoring a panel.

Observe the motion of her brush!

A photo of JoAnn.

A little color in a park and a sidewalk grocer.

A little street art says a lot.

I wish I had more to share but our time was limited and the weather was awful. A moment here and a minute there; travel is always an adventure.
