Our Final Day at Sea, August 27, 2021

There is good and bad to report today. The good is that the sun decided to make an appearance. The bad is that today is our last on board the Oasis. Tomorrow we will dock in Bayonne and most likely drive home in the rain. This has been a nice getaway and long time-a-coming.

We left cabin 7682 around 11:15 am and decided to stop at Playmakers, the sports bar on the Boardwalk, in search of a couple of Bloody Marys. Our search ended in success.

Playmakers is where a nice Mexican restaurant, Sabor, used to be. It has many TVs for your viewing pleasure and ample draft beers.

Get a flight of three or four brews at a reasonable price. The servers are all good natured. Have a look.

Playmakers is opposite Johnny Rockets. While we were sitting with our Bloody Marys the staff at Johnny’s came out to perform a little dance routine.

It was now time for the obligatory lunch so we headed off to the Park Cafe for one of their roast beef sandwiches. These are really good and are freshly made as you wait. The outside sitting area at the Park Cafe is very pleasant and inviting.

As we were enjoying lunch, I noticed how beautiful the underside of these plants were. Unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the plant but I’ve seen it many, many times before. It amazing how much we miss and how much there is to see if we just stop and look.

Since it was such a nice day we decided to find lounge chairs up on deck. We finally landed back in the Solarium. Our motto today was, “lets take advantage of the sun,” and we did. I took the following shot, to capture the reflection, as we were leaving Central Park.

As we were making our way to the Solarium we decided to pass by and through The Windjammer for a look-see. This was our first visit to this venue since we arrived. Here are a couple of snapshots.

We especially liked the seafood display. Everything looked fresh and delicious; with large shrimp, plump scallops, crayfish, mussels and clams,

And, as in all buffet areas, everything was served to you by staff. Here is another shot of the shrimp and clams.

Sweet tooth anyone?

After about an hour, more or less, in the Solarium we decided we should return to our cabin since our clothes weren’t going to pack themselves. What a depressing prospect.

Packing did not take long and before we knew it we were headed back to the Rising Tide for a final visit with Iris, Edy, Ralph and Michael. Then, after the Tide took us from deck 5 to deck 8 we “disembarked” for our last us dinner at Giovanni’s Table. Giovanni’s is nicely decorated with the tables well spaced. There weren’t too many people there when we arrived, as was the case in all the specialty restaurants. Here’s a couple of photos of the interior of the restaurant.

JoAnn had Tonno (tuna) Crudo followed with Gnocchi in Gorgonzola cream sauce.

For her entree she had Mediterranean Bronizo.

I started with grilled octopus followed with Bucatini Bolognese. Both very good..

For my entire I enjoyed an osso buco with a second helping of the bucatini. I can’t help it if I am a pasta guy.

We both enjoyed our meals and felt that Giovanni’s was comparable to a fine shoreside Italian restaurant. Chops was probably our favorite restaurant this cruise but this was a close second and we both agree that Izumi was right up there with them.

Following dinner we decided to take in the aqua show, entitled “Aqua 80.” It was a lot of dancing, synchronized swimming, aerial acrobatics and, of course, diving. I did my best to take some photos and here are a couple of shots of the show. The show opened with this fellow sailing above us on a skate board.

And last, but certainly not last, a high wire act. Sorry it’s a little blurry but you get the idea. That white dot below the acrobat is a single star in the evening sky.

The show was terrific, high energy, great lighting and good music. Don’t miss it if you are on board. And, it was a great ending to a great cruise adventure.
