Nassau Steps Up, February 7, 2025

We were scheduled to stop at Grand Turk on Thursday, February 6th, but due to high winds the ship couldn’t make it to the pier. Exercising an abundance of caution, the Captain decided on a day at sea. He was able, however, to substitute Nassau on the 7th. Passengers hate missing a port so the substitution made people happy.

Before leaving the cabin, I took this shot of the Atlantis Resort.

We left the ship after lunch and were greeted with a really pleasant day, sunny and warm with a gentle breeze. I took this photo as we made our way down the pier. The Enchanted is on the right and an Oceana ship, the Sirena, is next to us. The other, black hulled ship, is part of the Disney Cruise Line.

The downtown, at the port and along Bay Street, was busy, clean and inviting. I managed to snap this during a momentary lull in the traffic.

Next is a shot of the Straw Market “sign” followed by a photo inside the market. When we first started visiting Nassau the Straw Market was a collection of stalls and corridors. Visiting the market then, in the late 1990’s, was a lot of fun. I remember buying a particularly grotesque hat, which was very funny, for maybe $10.00. Later, back on the ship there was a “white elephant” auction sale at which I sold that hat for $15.

Those were the days when a great deal of the entertainment on board revolved around the cruise staff, all of whom were entertainers, singers, dancers and comedians.

We stopped in Christ Church Cathedral for a visit. It is lovely in it’s simplicity.

On our way back to the ship we passed Parliament Square with this statue of Queen Victoria.

Then, once inside security we passed through the recently renovated (for us) port shopping. It is clean and pleasant. Here is a photo of the stalls.
