Well, after two good flights on British Airways, we arrived in Milano, heart of northern Italy. From the airport, we were on our way to the Hotel Spadari al Duomo. Here are a couple of photos of our room.
Because our anniversary is coming up in a couple of days they surprised us with a bottle of champagne and some ripe strawberries. I must say, the room is exactly as seen on the website and extraordinarily clean.
Then, after checking in and dropping our luggage in our room, we were off for a few moments in this interesting and historic city. Of course, our first stop was the Duomo.
The Piazza del Duomo was teeming with people, all going somewhere; here, there, everywhere, and all stopping to admire the Duomo and most snapping photos with their phones. And, we were no different. Tomorrow we have tickets for the roof and the interior of the basilica. Today we are just passersby. I did manage to capture a few shots of the Duomo’s magnificent doors. The door I chose tells the story of the crucifixion. Have a look.
In the two photos above the polished areas are from people touching the sculpture. They have wiped away the green patina of the bronze.
Now, to be completely honest, I did take one other photo of the Duomo. Here it is. I like the perspective.
Standing looking at the Duomo, you can’t help but notice the Victor Emmanuel II Galleria to your left. It was the first covered mall and it is fabulous. All high end stores and, just like on Piazza del Duomo, lots and lots of people, although not so much in this photo.
We were in the mall, in front of the Louis Vuitton store and I loved this window display. The scooter is made of LV luggage.
Then we strolled over to La Scala. No opera for us. Here is a picture of JoAnn outside the opera house by an old wooden door. In addition to churches I do like wooden doors.
So, we made our way into San Fedele Church. It is very lovely; have a look for yourself.
This is the Apparition of the Sacred Heart to Saint Margaret Alacoque. I found it very interesting and difficult to photograph. I think it is because of the colors. In any event, I hope you find it as interesting as I did.

This is a striking piece. I can’t take credit for the lighting, it’s just how it turned out when I took the photo with Mary being highlighted. Still in all it is a beautiful work of art.
The ceiling of San Fedele is truly lovely.
On our way back to the hotel we saw, as we made our way through Piazza Duomo, this group of tourists watching I wonder what. They certainly were not looking at the Duomo.
Back at Hotel Spadari al Duomo, we got ready for aperitivo time; 6:30pm in the lobby and followed by dinner at Cantina Della Vetra, which was excellent. Then, at last, back to the hotel for a good night’s sleep.
