Portland, October 1, 2017

We arrived in Portland, Maine, to find a beautiful day.  We took our time leaving the Anthem.  We decided we would start our day at the Shipyard Brewery.  Beer was the order of the moment.

From the Shipyard we were off to find the Rising Tide Brewery.  It was an uphill walk

from the Shipyard to Congress Street then downhill from there to the brewery.  Here are a couple of photos I took along the way.

I was asked if there is a story behind the photo of the electric meters.  I took the photo because, I guess, they spoke to me and I found them interesting.  They were hung on a building on India Street for all to see.  Same thing with the “lending library.”  It was all by itself on Newbury Street; an innocent little piece of our papered past; just think, a non-digital book.

We found the Rising Tide Brewery down the hill on Fox Street.  It was hosting an anniversary party for friends and locals.  Fortunately they let us crash the party, have a flight and listen to the music.

The flugelhorn player is Emma Stanley; she was quite good and had a nice voice.  She played with the band Native Isles.  That’s my friend Jim welcoming everyone to the party.

From there we made our way back to the Anthem.  Here are a few more photos of Portland.

The mural was painted on the side of a building which bordered a well-kept playground. I find murals interesting as they usually are a commentary on the social nature of things.  The mosaic is also, no doubt, a social commentary.

The cemetery, one of my favorite subjects, reminds me of our mortal souls and days past.

Next stop, Bar Harbor.
