Burano, May 10, 2018

From Murano we took a 20 minute boat ride to Burano.  As the day wore on the weather started to change and by the time we arrive the sun was starting to peek through the clouds and began warming the day.  Unlike Murano, the houses and buildings on Burano were very colorful.  Here is a shot as we were approaching the dock.

According to Barbara, Burano is famous for lace although it is apparently a dying industry as not many young people (make that young women) are learning the craft.  Barbara told us that there is a centenarian still active in producing lace.  She can be seen walking around the piazza using her walker.

Barbara led us on a walking tour of the area around the main piazza of the island.  Murano is very picturesque.  The buildings are in pastel shades of blue, yellow, pink, green and orange.

We had free time for lunch on our own.  Barbara suggest we try La Primo, an attractive restaurant on the main square.  We got there just in time to get the last table under the umbrella.  We ordered pasta with crab meat followed by a whole grilled sea bass.  Both were excellent.  Here is a photo of my wife and the young lady who was working with our waiter.  She was exceedingly nice and nothing was too much for her.

Our waiter did a great job preparing our grilled fish . . .

. . . and I must say, the fish was terrific.

While we were sitting there Barbara and some colleagues decided to also enjoy lunch at La Primo but they had to sit inside.  Inside, outside, it was really good.

Then, there is that ubiquitous glass of wine; I’m a sucker for a glass of wine and how it handles light.  Look at the object reflected in the wine is displayed; upside down and backward.

Lunch was over and we had to return to the boat to depart for Le Lyrial.  Problem was, we  couldn’t get a bill and we couldn’t just walk away.  We were told to be back to the boat by 3pm and time was running out.  We hate being the last one to return from free time on a tour.  People are anxious to get going and really resent those that delay departure.  As it turned out we were going to be that couple; except for Barbara who was also delayed as she purchased cookies for our travel companions.

All aboard; lets set sail on Le Lyrial.

Love the pictures. Looks like I’m going to have to pay a visit to Burano some day. It looks like it’s right up my alley.
