It was Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, February 14th, and we were departing the Viking Saigon destined for Saigon, now officially known as Ho Chi Minh City. We stopped briefly to visit the memorial park at Cu Chi. It is the site of the subterranean tunnels used by the Viet Cong during the Vietnam war. Located in a jungle setting, the preserved tunnels clearly presented a dangerous situation to the South Vietnamese army and allied troops. Here is a photo of the jungle and of a park employee as he disappears into the ground.

Back in the bus, our next stop was the Sheraton Hotel in Saigon.

Here is a photo of the lobby followed by one of a young woman manning the front doors, which I really like.

The hotel was decorated for the New Year, as were some of its visitors.

Our room and the views from our room.

After dinner we decided on a walk to experience some of the Tet festivities. The celebration was all around us.

And, as we were settling down for the night, I took this from our 19th floor room.

One more day to go, good night Saigon. Happy New Year Vietnam.
