Beaujeu and Sailing, October 24, 2023

We stopped in the little village of Beaujeu after leaving the winery. It was quiet and sleepy when we arrived. No one, except our group, seemed to be around. Here are a couple of photos.

We had about 20 minutes to stroll around and during that time we made our way into the church of St. Nicolas de Beaujeu. It was a lovely little church.

Here are a few photos taken inside for your consideration. Let’s start with the main alter.

And some others.

I particularly liked this sculpture.

And as we left St. Nicolas, I took this photo of a gentleman deep in thought and devotion.

As we returned to our ship the sky morphed; from blue skies with white clouds, to clouds in transition from white to grey and then, as we traveled on, to angry, storm laden monsters.

Back on board we departed Lyon and started for our next stop, Vienne. As we cruised along we passed the Musee des Confluences on our starboard side. It is a natural science center and anthropology museum which opened in December 2014. Its architectural design is interesting and thought provoking. On our way, we passed within inches of this bridge.

The museum as we looked back. The museum is located at the southern tip of the confluence of the Rhône (on the right) and the Saone (on the left), which is visible in the second photo.

During our trip we were scheduled to pass through twelve locks. Here we are entering one of them.

The skies were ever so capricious. As we approached evening and made our way down the Rhône I snapped this photo of what awaited us.
